Chapter 1037: The Shy Melody

Chapter 1037: The Shy Melody

Mr. Dolittle seemed very happy; to him, there was nothing that filled him with more joy than to master a new field of knowledge. In Mr. Dolittle’s view, any undiscovered knowledge was an invaluable treasure, so it was naturally a pleasure to watch his wealth accumulating.

Therefore, the great scientist did not notice that Sheyan’s mind was elsewhere. He only left enthusiastically after three rounds of drinks. After Mr. Dolittle left, Sheyan gulped down another glass of wine, then stared blankly into his right hand. His mind was playing back the memory of that evil grip, of the soul-stirring sensation and the astonishing elasticity. He also recalled the way that the always cold and aloof Zi lay feebly on top of him. The irrepressible moans which escaped from her nose excited Sheyan down to the core. He let his imagination run wild with a perverted look on his face.

But at that moment, a sudden soft noise could be heard from outside the window. Then, a big tree right outside the window drop its branches obediently to carry Melody into the room. She happened to see Sheyan’s vulgar expression at that instant. It shocked her beyond words, as if she had seen a stranger.

Sheyan, who was immersed in his fantasy, immediately bounced off the bed and asked in embarrassment, “W…What’s the problem, Melody?

Melody stared at Sheyan in surprise.

“The expression on your face just now was so strange. It’s terrible.”

Sheyan laughed drily a few times and replied, “I was hit on the head by the T-1000 in the battle this evening, and now I’m all dizzy. My mind keeps drifting away. There’s nothing strange about that.”

Melody was naive, innocent girl by nature, so she did not doubt Sheyan’s words. She immediately went over to Sheyan and placed her hand on his forehead, then casted a ‘Rejuvenation’ spell on him.

She then asked softly, “Why did that woman come to your room just now?”

Sheyan’s heart skipped a beat, but he managed to answer as if nothing was wrong.

“She’s the deputy leader of our party. Of course she came here to discuss the plan for our next operation.”

Melody stared at Sheyan with her clear, big eyes. She pouted and said, “When I saw her come to your room alone, I felt really unhappy for some reason.”

‘So Elves will get jealous too? I guess its a common emotion among all females regardless of species.’ Sheyan secretly thought in his heart. He had a lot of ideas in his mind, but he knew very well that it would be quite unwise to continue to revolve around the topic of Zi, so he answered with his body instead.

He shamelessly stroked Melody’s thigh and gently said, “Did you come here because you missed me?”

Melody’s a shy girl, so of course she would not answer Sheyan’ explicit question. She also found that Sheyan’s dishonest hands were getting more and more unrestrained. Her face turned red at once, but she still did not know how to respond to Sheyan.

She could not get herself to say ‘yes’ because that was just too embarrassing, but if she said ‘no’, she would be lying. A blooming young woman who ran into a single man’s room in the middle of the night and sat down on his bed — hasn’t her actions betrayed her?

“No, don’t…” Melody shyly and powerlessly avoided the demonic claws of Sheyan when she felt them crawl up her body. She did not feel comfortable having an intimate interaction in this strange, unfamiliar world. If they were in the world of the Lord of the Rings, she would have responded with the most intense passion.

Sheyan was definitely not one who would forget everything when he got hard. The purpose of his actions at the moment was just to safely retreat by going on the offence. Just as Melody’s breathing started turning, Sheyan suddenly said, “Oh, right. Mr. Dolittle will come here to talk to me later. He just showed me the latest tracking invention he had researched. His knowledge is truly as profound as Saruman’s. Have you brought some pearl grass with you? I’ll like to make some tea for him. I think Mr. Dolittle will like it very much.”

Pearl grass was the latest specialty of Dawn City. After Sheyan’s environmental transformation, a unique high-latitude wetland had been formed there. When spring blossomed the following year, this type of plant grew around the marsh. Its leaves were shaped like strings of beads and looked very unique.

Some of the Elves were curious and paid attention to the grass. First, they found that the aroma the grass gave off was very unique and could help in their cultivation of magic. Later, Mr. Segimli tried to soak the grass in wheat wine. As a result, he found that it produced a special fragrance. Then, the grass was used by many Elves to make tea, and it gradually became popular.

Because only the special environment around Dawn City, which was a combination of snowy mountains, swamp, a warm climate caused by the Balrog’s heat and the Moria mines could provide the condition for the pearl grass to grow, so the pearl grass had become the number one most popular export commodity of Dawn City.

Sheyan had tasted it before. The effect of its refreshing and pleasant fragrance was truly miraculous.

When the shy Melody heard that Mr. Dolittle was coming, she refused to stay any longer. She left in a hurry. Sheyan was naturally relieved by that. He was having a huge headache dealing the situation with Zi and Melody, but for the time being, he could only take one step at a time, improvising as he goes.

***

Early the next morning, Sheyan could hear the roar of the torrential rain outside the window.

The day dawned sombre and gloomy, and the visibility was low. It was probably morning already, but one could only see 7 to 8 meters in front of them relying on just the natural light. Beyond that was an endless expanse of whiteness. The water in the soil had obviously reached the saturation point, so it could not take in any more. Water pooled up everywhere as a result. A large amount of rainwater splashed onto the countless stagnant waters on the ground. A car would only pass by on the road outside every 10 minutes so, moving slowly with its dim fog lights lit.

Sheyan turned on the TV to watch the news. There was nothing much of interest. Most of the news were about floods in some places or a house collapsing somewhere. Such bad weather was the busiest time for firefighters and policemen.

Suddenly, the news anchor’s tone changed.

“Last night, the Simpson family were brutally murdered in their home in Sixth Avenue, District 17. The Simpsons’ neighbour claimed that his dog kept barking the whole night in the direction of the Simpson household, so he went to take a look in the morning, only to find that the whole Simpson family had been killed.”

“According to police investigation, the weapon used by the murderer was similar to a bayonet. Every member of the Simpson family was killed in one blow, including their youngest daughter who was in the cradle. They suspect that the murderer may be a retired veteran or a professional hired assassin. None of the Simpson family’s wealth was missing, which led the police to suspect that the murders may be a hate crime. Police have reported that the murderer had allegedly surfed the Internet using the computer in the house after the murders….”

Mogensha was already knocking eagerly at Sheyan’s door.

“Boss! There seems to be a clue!”

“Come in. You mean what’s on the news?” asked Sheyan.

“That’s right! There was no robbery, all the deaths were in one blow, the police can find no traces, and the murderer was so cruel that they even killed the baby. Such criminals are really rare. The culprit is most likely the T-1000!” replied Mogensha.

Sheyan nodded. “If that’s the case, then there’s another piece of good news for us. This shows that there should be no more undercover Terminators hiding among the humans. If there were, the T-1000 should’ve gone directly to them to obtain information instead of looking on the Internet himself. After all, when the Terminators do things, they always try to achieve the highest efficiency.”

“As soon as we got back here last night, we’ve already released some bait with Dr. Dolittle’s help,” Mogensha said eagerly, “When do you think the T-1000 will take the bait?”

“I’m not sure either,” answered Sheyan, “But we mustn’t relax the surveillance around “Ms. Adess’ family”. Since the T-1000’s action is based on efficiency, I think it’ll take a certain amount of time to collect information first in order to plan for the optimised routes and actions.”

At that moment, Reef’s voice transmitted over from the party communication channel.

“Boss, the people from Five Wheels are here.”

Sheyan contemplated something for a moment before he replied, “Okay, I’ll be there soon.”

Since they already have an agreement in place, the people of Five Wheels no longer hid themselves from Party Ace. Boji, Corina, Hill and the one who negotiated with them before this, Mr. Darkness, appeared one by one before them. Corina did not look too friendly; there was a bitter resentment in her eyes. But when she saw Zi, she immediately shrank back in fear behind her teammates like a mouse that had seen a cat.

Truthfully speaking, the agreement signed between Five Wheels and Party Ace was very lopsided, but absolute fairness did not exist in this world anyway. The Five Wheels were the party who were in a more urgent need of help, so there was nothing they could do about it. The market had always been dictated by the principle of supply and demand.

In fact, the Five Wheels should thank their lucky stars because if they had not met with Party Ace, the Awakener advancement missions of their two core members were almost destined to fail. Party Ace’s appearance had prevented all their previous efforts from going to waste.

After meeting up with them, Sheyan was not in a hurry to get down to business. He first invited them to sit down and served them the famous pearl tea. Then, he simply said, “I know what you came here for. You wish for us to help you finish the Awakener advancement missions as soon as possible. The stronger these two are, the more helpful they will be for our next move.”

Mr. Darkness nodded. “My thoughts exactly.”

But Sheyan suddenly narrowed his eyes.

“We might have an agreement between us, but I’m sure you’ll understand that we have to take some precautionary measure. How ’bout this? We’ll help one of you complete your Awakener advancement mission first, then you guys will help me with my mission. After that’s done, we’ll do the last Awakener advancement mission. Here are six bottles of mixes I’ve prepared for you guys, free of charge. I’m sorry, but this is not a discussion; I’m merely informing you of my decision.”
